Terms of service.

Last reviewed by legal counsel: pending. The substance of this page reflects Cognoir’s current operating practices, but the language has not yet been formally reviewed.

Acceptance of terms

These terms govern your use of Cognoir. By creating an account, starting a trial, or using the service, you agree to them. If you are using Cognoir on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

Description of service

Cognoir is a private workspace for documents you upload. The service parses your documents, indexes them, and answers questions about them with citations to the passages they came from. The product surface evolves; the substance described here is what Cognoir does today.

Account responsibilities

You are responsible for the security of your account credentials and for activity that occurs under your account. Notify us at security@cognoir.com promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

You retain ownership of the documents and content you upload. You grant Cognoir the limited rights needed to host, process, and serve that content back to you. We do not use your content to train AI models — ours or anyone else’s.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Cognoir to upload content you do not have the right to use, to violate the rights of others, to build a competing service from the system’s internals, to attempt to extract or circumvent another customer’s data, to transmit malware, or to use the service in ways that materially impair its availability for other customers.

Cognoir is not a substitute for professional advice. Outputs should be reviewed by a qualified human before they are used to make legal, medical, financial, or comparable decisions.

Subscriptions and payments

Plans, prices, and quotas are described on the pricing page. Trials last 14 days and require no payment information. After the trial, continued use requires an active subscription. Subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled.

Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing cycle. Refunds are available within 7 days of subscribing, no questions asked.

Termination

You can cancel your subscription or delete your account at any time from your workspace settings. After the 14-day trial, if you do not subscribe, your workspace becomes read-only for 30 days, after which the workspace and its contents are deleted.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially violate these terms. Where possible we give notice and an opportunity to remediate before terminating.

Disclaimers and limitations of liability

Cognoir is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any answer it produces will be free of factual error. Outputs are tools to support your work, not substitutes for your judgement.

To the extent permitted by law, Cognoir’s aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Cognoir is established at the time you accept them. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer protection law provides otherwise.

Changes to terms

We will update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes are announced by email to active customers at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after that period constitutes acceptance.
