What's new in Cognoir.

Substantive changes only. We don’t log every patch release — this is what you would tell a colleague if they asked what Cognoir does now that it didn’t do last quarter.

  1. Trust tooling, agent access, and a friendlier front door

    Ten upgrades in one wave: answers that flag their own disagreements, verifiable bibliographies, MCP access for AI agents, one-time top-ups, a daily-renewing free trial, and two free tools anyone can use.

    • Conflicting sources are flagged inline — when two cited documents disagree, the answer names the exact point of disagreement on both source cards.
    • Copy any answer's citations as a formatted bibliography — APA, MLA, Chicago, Vancouver, Bluebook, or OSCOLA (MLA is new across the product).
    • Reference verification for academic documents: every DOI in a bibliography is checked against CrossRef and OpenAlex, with fabricated or mismatched references flagged.
    • MCP endpoint + API keys: connect Claude Code, Claude Desktop, or any MCP client to search your knowledge bases, with the same quotas and limits as the app.
    • One-time question top-ups: a heavy month no longer forces a plan upgrade.
    • The anonymous trial's three questions now renew every day.
    • First uploads pay off instantly — a snapshot card shows what's in your document the moment processing finishes.
    • Two free no-signup tools: a PDF summarizer and a YouTube transcript extractor.

  2. Web search fallback

    When your documents don't have the answer, chat no longer dead-ends. Cognoir now offers to search the web — only when you ask it to — and lets you fold what it finds back into your knowledge base.

    • A “Search the web?” button appears when a question can't be answered from your knowledge base. Nothing is ever searched automatically — you stay in control of what leaves your workspace.
    • Results are real, live sources from an actual web search — title, site, and a short preview — never links invented by the model.
    • One-click “Add to KB” turns any result into a document in your knowledge base, so future answers cite it like any other source.
    • Web results stay clearly separated from answers grounded in your own documents — the two are never blended.

  3. Citation tooling & collaboration

    Four roadmap features land together: control over how citations read, export them as real footnotes, annotate your sources, and see where your documents agree or disagree.

    • Customisable citation styles per knowledge base — APA, Chicago, AAA, Vancouver, Bluebook, OSCOLA — rendered from the structured reference, with a graceful fall back to the default format.
    • Export any answer as a Word document with the citations as real footnotes, paste-ready into a brief or a review.
    • Reader-side annotations: highlight, comment, and tag passages in the source viewer; notes travel with the document for everyone on a shared knowledge base.
    • Cross-reference detection surfaces where two documents cite the same hadith, verse, statute, case, or share a verbatim passage.

  4. Polish week

    Two weeks of paint-and-detailing work across the product. Mostly invisible, but the surface should feel calmer and more deliberate now.

    • Three-way Light / Dark / System theme picker — every surface tested in dark mode.
    • Cmd-K command palette across the authenticated app.
    • Hover, focus, active, and loading states audited and harmonised against the design tokens.
    • Source viewer rebuilt as a slide-over with structural citation popovers.
    • Settings, billing, team, and privacy pages restyled to match the rest of the app.

  5. Generated content

    Flashcards, quizzes, study guides, slides, and data tables — all generated from your library, all citing back to the passages they came from.

    • Flashcards with mastery progression and Review-missed-only filter.
    • Quizzes with explanations and per-attempt scoring.
    • Study guides with print stylesheet.
    • Slides with present mode (keyboard navigation, speaker notes).
    • Data tables with sort and filter across rows extracted from a corpus.

  6. Vertical specialisations

    Per-discipline parsing, retrieval, and citation conventions for Islamic scholarship, legal / compliance, and academic research.

    • Hadith ingestion preserves the isnād and authenticity grading where the source provides them.
    • Quran citations by surah and ayah, with the translator named when the source is a translation.
    • Case-law citations carry the jurisdiction — never inferred.
    • Academic citations to section and page, not just the work.

  7. Public beta

    Cognoir opens to the public after six months of closed design partnerships.

    • Anonymous trial: one document, three questions, no signup.
    • 14-day free trial for new accounts.
    • Knowledge bases, multi-document chat, and citation popovers.
    • Web URL ingestion.
